July 1, 2008 - The Governor's Interagency Task Force on Employee Misclassification will hold a public hearing on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in Benton Harbor. The meeting will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Michigan Works! Benton Harbor Service Center, Anchor Rooms A & B, 499 W. Main Street.
Lt. Governor John Cherry will be attending the hearing and will be making introductory remarks. The hearing will be conducted by Keith Cooley, director of the Department of Labor & Economic Growth and chair of the Task Force. The Task Force is examining the issue of workers who are misclassified as "independent contractors," rather than as "employees," and the related problem of the underground economy.
