DECEMBER 3, 2001 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) has summarily suspended the pharmacist license of Jeffrey Alan Kennedy, R.Ph. due to substance abuse and diversion of controlled substances. The CIS Bureau of Health Services orders a summary suspension when it believes the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action.
Between May 2000 and August 2001, Kennedy diverted approximately 43,000 unit doses of controlled substances while working in a pharmacy and as a result, was terminated from his employment. During an investigation by the CIS, Kennedy admitted to diverting controlled substances and criminal charges are now pending.
Based upon Kennedy’s diversion of controlled substances and substance abuse, CIS summarily suspended his license. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Kennedy’s suspended pharmacist license.
