The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, & Economic Growth announces two grant opportunities: the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) Multi-Purpose Grants and the LED Demonstration Grants. The purpose of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) Multi-Purpose Grants is to assist eligible cities, townships and counties in implementing energy efficiency and conservation strategies that reduce fossil fuel emissions and total energy use, and that improve energy efficiency in the transportation, building and other sectors. The purpose of the LED Demonstration Grants is to assist local governments to implement projects that install Light Emitting Diode (LED) products, also known as Solid State Lighting and to increase general public awareness about the technology.

State Energy Program Request for Proposal: Tall Towers Wind Energy Monitoring  PDF icon
The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, & Economic Growth is offering a grant to a public or non-profit organization to conduct a Tall Towers Wind Energy Monitoring Project and install anemometers on five (5) Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) towers to measure wind speeds. This is not a research and development project. The purpose is to collect wind data that will facilitate and expedite the development of wind power in Michigan.

The Low-Income & Energy Efficiency Fund (LIEEF) Grants
The Customer Choice and Electricity Reliability Act, 2000 PA 141, authorized the creation of the Low-Income and Energy Efficiency Fund (LIEEF) administered by the Commission via grants to qualifying organizations. The purpose of the fund is to provide shut-off and other protection for low-income customers and to promote energy efficiency by all customer classes.
DOE Delivers More than $354 Million for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Projects in 22 States
Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced Monday, September 14, 2009, that more than $354 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is being awarded to 22 states to support energy efficiency and conservation activities.

Current Non-ARRA Requests for Proposal:
Request for Proposal: Solar and Wind Energy Outreach and Education  PDF icon
The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to obtain proposals from one or more non-profit or public organizations to conduct statewide outreach projects in Michigan to educate the public, businesses, and/or public institutions about 1) Solar Energy and 2) Wind Energy. These grants do not provide funds to directly purchase and install solar or wind energy systems. It is expected that two projects will be selected, one in each project area. An organization can only submit one proposal for each project area, but can submit proposals for both project areas. Each project can be up to $60,000. The activities in the proposed grant(s) will cover nine months from December 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010. Deadline for proposals is October 5, 2009.
Request for Proposal: Michigan Energy Code Training Program  PDF icon
Up to $50,000 is available to deliver commercial and residential energy code training throughout the State of Michigan to building officials, plan reviewers, building inspectors, electrical inspectors, plumbing inspectors and mechanical inspectors. No match is required. Proposals are due Friday, October 16, 2009. The expected grant start date will be January 1, 2010 and grant completion date August 31, 2010. Nonprofit, pubic, and private entities or organizations are eligible to submit proposals. Please reference the posted Request For Proposal PDF document for grant content and grant submission details.

Request for Proposal: MBEP Workshop Financial Assistance  PDF icon
Up to $2,500 is available to support a workshop or event whose primary focus is to promote the production, commercialization, and use of biomass energy/fuels in Michigan. A 25% match (cash and/or in-kind contributions) of the total requested amount is also required. Workshops/events must take place in Michigan and occur between October 15, 2009 and August 15, 2010. Public and non-profit organizations are eligible to submit proposals. Funds will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until all money is distributed.

Program activities are designed to encourage the use of new technologies and alternative fuels in buildings, industrial processes,
vehicles and in power generation. Program objectives are advanced through a variety of services, including information dissemination, technical assistance, financial assistance and demonstration projects. The primary funding source for Bureau of Energy Systems (BES) activities is the U.S. Department of Energy . The BES operates within the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DeLEG) .
