Volunteers have been active helping clean up and disinfect southeast Michigan homes after the Aug 11 floods. Team Rubicon and AmeriCorps NCCC members assisted residents in desperate need of help.
Governor Snyder Honors Michigan Volunteers To honor exemplary volunteer service in Michigan, Gov. Rick Snyder presented the Governor's Service Awards to individuals, organizations and a business at an awards ceremony Monday night. The 2014 Governor's Service Awards, titled "An Evening with the Stars," was held at the Gem Theatre in Detroit.

Governor Snyder, Mayor Bing launch expansion of AmeriCorps Governor & Mayor Initiative Urban Safety Corps Gov. Rick Snyder and Mayor Dave Bing today announced the launch and expansion of an innovative crime reduction model in the city of Detroit: the AmeriCorps Governor & Mayor Initiative Urban Safety Corps Program. A unique public-private partnership, the program utilizes 36 AmeriCorps members as catalysts to mobilize and recruit community volunteers to join them in improving public safety in targeted Detroit neighborhoods.
