What's New?

The Michigan Chronic Disease Map Portfolio is a collection of Geographic Information System maps developed by a team from the Michigan Department of Community Health (Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Cancer, Tobacco and Epidemiology).  Over 100 Michigan maps are included on a range of health topics. The work in the Portfolio is a product of funding and training in a grant provided by the CDC Division of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and the Children's Environmental Health Initiative at Duke University. The purpose of this portfolio is to share maps with colleagues letting them know about this resource and technical service, and also provide examples of the evolution of learning over the 2-year grant period with the expectation that others will learn from this work. For questions about the Portfolio email Velma Theisen at theisenv@michigan.gov.

These stroke education tools were designed in laminate pocket card format for EMS providers. They are intended to provide a  reference for pre-hospital stroke care. Using these tools will enhance the use of the EMS Michigan Stroke protocol, the Cincinnati Pre-hospital Stroke Scale primary stroke center locations, and determine when the patient was last seen normal. New additions to the card include a reminder in bold print to document the time the possible stroke patient was last seen normal.  On the back is another reminder for families to go to the hospital to provide important medical history information or to provide a name and contact information of someone who can.  The Report to ED section was also edited to reflect the expanded window for treatment that is available in some areas of the state.
