Detroit Regional Office

This office provides employment information and career planning assistance to state employees and applicants in Southeastern Michigan. Our services include:

In-Person Assistance - Job seekers can visit our Detroit Regional Office to receive personal assistance. Computers are available for job seekers to use to obtain information about state employment, current vacancies, and how to apply.

Testing Center - The Detroit Regional Office administers the following examinations for state employment:
  Administrative Support Exam* (Secretary, General Office Assistant, Executive Secretary, Legal Secretary, Word Processing Assistant, Accounting Assistant, Personnel Management Assistant, Data Coding Operator, and more clerical jobs).
  Corrections Nonprofessional Supervisors Exam* (Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor, Corrections Security Inspector, Corrections Shift Supervisor, and Resident Unit Manager).


Entry-Level Security Exam (Corrections Officer and Forensic Security Aide).


Law Enforcement & Public Safety Officers Exam (Conservation Officer, State Police Trooper, Motor Carrier Officer, and State Properties Security Officer).


State Police Sergeants Exam* (State Police Sergeant and State Police Detective Sergeant).
 
*Exams open to state employees only.
For these jobs, Civil Service Commission staff administers an exam and maintains an applicant pool.

State Job Qualification Determinations - Our professional staff will review resumes and let employment seekers know which state job classifications they qualify for, to help guide them in their employment search.

Resume Writing and Interviewing - We offer learning tools to help job seekers create effective resumes, and to prepare for and participate in the interview process.

Career Planning - We can provide information on career paths in state government to help state employees develop plans to prepare for promotional or career change opportunities. In addition, we offer state agencies on-site presentations on job information and career planning services, tailored to the department's needs
