Library Services and Technology Act - LSTA
Introduction to LSTA - www.michigan.gov/lsta
The Library of Michigan distributes federal funds received under the Museum and Library Services Act of 2003, incorporating the Library Services and Technology Act of 1996 (LSTA), to support statewide initiatives and competitive grant programs.
Through the legislation, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency, provides grants to State Library Administrative Agencies to improve and support library, museum and information services. LSTA outlines two broad priorities for funding:
  1. to encourage activities that use technology for information sharing among libraries and between libraries and other community agencies;
  2. to support programs that make library resources more accessible to urban and rural localities, low-income residents, and others having difficulty using library services.
If you have questions regarding LSTA, please contact Karren Reish at reishk@michigan.gov or (517) 241-0021.

LSTA 2009

• What's New for the LSTA Program
The MeL Study is here! In an effort to continue improving the Michigan eLibrary so libraries and Michigan residents get the most benefit from the program, the Library of Michigan has contracted with EPIC MRA to study the program.

The study includes a phone survey to the general public, an online questionnaire for library administrators and staff, and an online questionnaire for the public. The online survey links are below and will be live until December 6th.

Library Staff Survey
Library User Survey

Please respond to the library online survey and promote the public online survey to your patrons through bookmarks and/or placing a link to the survey on your home page. We need to hear from as many library staff and library users - public library patrons, teachers, university students, K-12 students - as possible.

The surveys and data analysis will be done this fall and the results will be available this winter. We will post information here and to various library listservs as the study progresses. Thank you for your participation!
