Public hearing will allow area residents to offer comments for the record
What: Public hearing to discuss the proposed replacement of the M-86 bridge over the St. Joseph River in Three Rivers and proposed detours.
Who: Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials
When: Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: City Council Chambers
333 West Michigan Avenue
Three Rivers, Michigan
Background: The need for improving this segment of M-86 is based on the importance of this river crossing and the deteriorated condition of the bridge over the St. Joseph River. MDOT studied and analyzed several alternatives, with the preferred alternative being replacement of the bridge in its present location. In order to construct the new M-86 bridge over the St. Joseph River, MDOT will need to close the existing bridge for approximately six to nine months.
MDOT has coordinated with the city in establishing two detour routes that will accommodate the traveling public as well as minimizing the impacts to the community during the construction of the new bridge. The first detour will be for noncommercial vehicles and will divert traffic from M-86 to 6th Avenue and
M-60. The second detour will be designated for commercial vehicles. This route will divert trucks from M-86 to Broadway Street, US-131 and M-60.
Brochures are available locally at the city of Three Rivers Clerk's Office, and the Three Rivers Public Library.
