Research on aging provides the hope and promise for everyone to live healthier, longer lives less susceptible to disease and disability.
--American Federation for Aging Research
Each day brings new research findings and awareness about the aging process and ways in which people may live longer, healthier and more fulfilled lives. According to the report of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, "In the last half of the 20th Century, investment in research to improve health provided dramatic return in prevention, treatment, and cures for disease and disability, consequently lengthening life expectancy and enhancing U.S. productivity."
As our nation's population continues to age at an unprecedented rate and as people live longer than ever before, an abundance of aging research will continue at various institutions from coast to coast, including at many institutions of higher learning right here in Michigan. From unlocking the door to what causes Alzheimer's disease to evidenced-based research on healthy living, research will continue to have a significant role in providing a solid foundation for aging policies and programs.
This section presents current and informative research--much of it publicly funded--in many areas of interest to professionals and others working with the older adult population.
