The Prison Build Program released another cabin built in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The latest sites for these cabins, constructed at the Saginaw Correctional Facility, are the Tawas Point State Park and East Tawas State Harbor. This cabin is one of 16 that are being constructed at the Saginaw and Kinross correctional facilities for Michigan's state parks. Saginaw Correctional Facility's Warden Jan Trombley and Prison Build Program's Supervisor Jack Adam built the first prototype that now sits on the Lake Huron shoreline at the Port Crescent State Park in Port Austin.
The interior of each cabin has been built with wood milled from the ash trees removed as a result of the ash borer disease. This unique recycling effort not only saves money, but provides an excellent finish to the inside of each cabin.
The Tawas achievement marks the third such cabin built for the DNR by the Prison Build Program to date. In addition to the Tawas and Port Crescent State Park cabins the other recipient is Lakeport State Park in St. Clair County. Two more cabins are expected to be delivered to these sites by the first week in July.

In addition to the cabins, the beds and tables are constructed for each cabin as well. Because of this unique partnership, the rental from each cabin is expected to earn enough revenue in one year to pay for the total cost of construction.
