March 16, 2012 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced it has launched social media initiatives to help keep the public informed on developments regarding the completion of the Gateway project in southwest Detroit.

Today, MDOT launched the following:

- A dedicated Web site at www.michigan.gov/gateway

- A Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mdotgateway

- A Twitter page at www.twitter.com/mdotgateway

On March 8, 2012, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Prentis Edwards directed the Detroit International Bridge Co. (DIBC) to cede control of their portion of the $230 million Gateway project and ordered MDOT to complete the remaining work.

Currently, MDOT is pursuing a design-build contract in order to complete the work in the quickest way possible. Proposal requests to the consultant and contracting industry will be submitted this month with the intent of awarding the contract by mid-April.

MDOT reminds drivers: Snowplows need room to groom.
