Money magazine has recognized the Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP) as a top five 529 College Savings Plan in the nation. In its August 1, 2007 edition, Money describes MESP as a plan "Whose strong management and low fees make them top choices not only for their own state's citizens, but for anyone whose in-state plan doesn't merit a star." A chart, comparing MESP to other 529 plans, will be posted on the Money/CNN website, located at www.money.cnn.com.

"The State of Michigan is proud to offer such a popular and well-respected college savings plan," said State Treasurer Robert J. Kleine. "With college costs increasing every year, there is no better time to start saving than today and MESP offers a tremendous, tax-advantaged savings opportunity to Michigan families."

Since its inception in 1998, more than 100,000 MESP accounts have been opened on behalf of Michigan students, with assets of more than $1 billion. For more information about MESP and saving for college, visit www.misaves.com.

College Savings Reminder: MET Enrollment Deadline is Tonight

Parents, grandparents, and others have until midnight tonight, to lock in tomorrow's tuition at today's rates. The Michigan Education Trust (MET) open enrollment period ends tonight. Future contract costs will likely reflect tuition increases when pricing for the next enrollment period is set later this year.

MET contracts can be purchased in one-semester increments - all the way up to four years (eight semesters) of education. You can enroll by mail (enrollment forms must be postmarked July 31st) or on-line by visiting www.SETwithMET.com. One lucky person will also win a free semester of college courtesy of MET. The winner will be announced during College Savings Month in September. Registrants must be 18 years of age or older. No purchase is necessary to win.

Since its debut in 1988 as the nation's first guaranteed tuition program, MET has sold more than 83,000 contracts with assets of nearly $1 billion. MET contracts are portable to Michigan private and out-of-state colleges and universities and may be transferred to other eligible family members.

Please note that MET staff will be available until 9 p.m. tonight, for last minute inquiries. Call 1-800-MET-4-KID (800-638-4543) or log onto www.SETwithMET.com.
